Direct Commerce Magazine are one of the leading publications in the commerce & retail sector, and their annual ECMOD Direct Commerce Awards celebrate some of the industry’s highest achievers. Established in 1998, the Awards have become a must-attend event in the multichannel retail calendar, attracting highly successful brands in the catalogue, home shopping and direct commerce sectors.

This year 3 blubolt clients were nominated for prizes. Sarah RavenFrugi and Seasalt went head-to-head with 34 other nominees including the likes of Lovehoney, House of Fraser, Original Gift Company and Bonmarché. We’re pleased to say that as well as being nominated (a great achievement in itself), 2 blubolt clients took home a combined 3 awards on the night, beating some highly-respected brands to take their place in the Direct Commerce Awards hall of fame.

Mother & child organic accessory & clothing retailer Frugi took home the prize for Annual sales of £5m – £15million B2C.  They’re no strangers to the ECMOD Awards, having already previously taken home a ‘Readers Choice B2C’ award, which they said was “a lovely pat on the back” from their peers. Over the years, Frugi have also taken prizes for their customer service and product innovation, culminating in winning the ‘Queen’s Award for Enterprise‘ which included a trip to the palace to collect it. Co-Founder Kurt Jewson stated the experience was “A #1 pants-wearing occasion” but unfortunately didn’t provide a photo of said pants to include with the article.

When asked how they’ve achieved so much success, Kurt attributed their award-winning superpowers to “eating a lot of lovely pasties. (These give us super-human strengths and super powers that make us invincible…sort of)“. He not only recommends upping your pasty quota, but also staying true to who you are.

We don’t wear suits, we have fun. We love a chat and we have a story to tell, we also look after the bottom line and realise that we have a long way to go.

Gardening guru Sarah Raven celebrated a double win, taking home the prizes for ‘Annual sales of up to £5million B2C’ and ‘Best Overall Website’. It comes little under a year after launching their new blubolt websites, one of the many ways the business has evolved since this time last year when they picked up a prize for ‘Best Gardening and Outdoor Brand’.

Marketing Manager Sian Lloyd Jones said it was daunting to go up against so many big names, especially for ‘Best Overall Website’. When asked for her top tips for achieving success, she advised;

You can never spend too much time scoping out a new website. Keep going back over what you have planned and look at it with an objective ‘customer eye’. It might be a cliché but keep the customer front of mind in all decisions that you make, after all it’s ultimately their opinion of your website that is key!

She said there was no particular recipe for their brands success but attributed the wins to the input of every single team member; “We have such a strong team ethos here at Sarah Raven and this, combined with the support of our suppliers, is what enables us to achieve what we do.
