We’re facing unprecedented times and challenges and for many retailers, now is about adapting to find new ways to reach customers. Local brewery, Kettlesmith Brewing Company, have done just that.

The surge in online activity has meant many smaller retailers have turned their attention to eCommerce, an area that perhaps prior to the COVID-19 pandemic wasn’t necessarily seen as a priority; whether due to time, budget constraints, know-how, or logistical hurdles. More than ever retailers need to rethink how they can protect their operation and hopefully come out just as strong in the coming months.

In direct response to this, we’ve thought hard about how we can use our experience at blubolt to try and help get some small retailers back on track. Earlier this month, we approached local brewery, Kettlesmith (based in Bradford on Avon), to see what we could do. Unable to supply pubs and restaurants as before, like many businesses, Kettlesmith has had to adapt fast.

Previously with a basic Wordpress website, Kettlesmith were posting daily announcements of beers they had available to purchase; customers could phone or message in and then pay via an emailed payment link. A few times a week, the team at Kettlesmith would then deliver the orders by hand. Shopify seemed the natural choice to give them a new platform to reach their customer base more easily. We needed to build and configure something that would be simple to use, quick to build, as well as offer all the features and functions of a typical eCommerce site.

With their new Shopify site up and running within two weeks, Kettlesmith can now update their beer availability in near real-time, take online payments through the website via Shop Pay and Paypal, manage their deliveries more efficiently, and automatically keep customers updated on their order process. Importantly, we made sure the process of setting up their new site involved as little of the owner’s time as possible, allowing them to focus on the day-to-day running of the business.

We’re pleased to see that online sales are beginning to grow daily and their online store will almost certainly now play a role in their future strategy. You can visit their new online store here and we can attest to the fact that their beer is fantastic!
