Shopify recently announced that Shopify Pay will now be called Shop Pay; there won’t be a name change for Shopify Payments though. Confused? Read on to sort your Shopify Pay from your Shop Pay, and then your Shop Pay from your Shopify Payments!
Shopify Pay is a customer facing service. It’s an accelerated checkout that allows customers to save their email address, credit card, and shipping and billing information. By saving these details, customers can speed through the checkout when they next visit any Shopify store, without needing to enter card details or remember passwords.
Shop Pay is the new name for Shopify Pay. The name has changed but the service remains exactly the same.
Should your customers have questions about Shop Pay, you can direct them to the customer facing Shop Pay Help page.
Shop Pay is a customer facing service whereas Shopify Payments is a merchant facing service.
Shopify Payments is the easiest way for Shopify websites to accept payments online as it removes the need to set up a third-party payment provider or merchant account and then enter their credentials into Shopify.
By using Shopify Payments, merchants can automatically accept all major payment methods once their Shopify store is live. To offer Shop Pay to customers on your website, you must be using Shopify Payments. Shop Pay is then automatically enabled in your store.
As there are no changes to the Shop Pay product at this time you don’t need to take any action. Stores with Shop Pay (formerly Shopify Pay) enabled will continue to benefit from increased conversion rates for returning customers.
