blubolt was founded in 2006 and, over the last fifteen years, has grown to become a well-respected name within the eCommerce industry. Since day one, our focus has always been on building beautiful online experiences, powered by technology that helps our customers grow; all supported by a team that is genuinely committed to their success.
Our Shopify Plus operation continues to grow at warp speed, doubling our customer base, building our new services, and launching solutions for brands such as Tetley, Rave Coffee, Pipers Farm and more. We continue to extend our Shopify technical expertise with the launch of our Delivery App and Bundle Builder solutions.
The start of blubolt! Founders, Chris Mattingly & Maxwell Lamb set up blubolt in a Georgian townhouse working late nights cranking out websites. Originally, the focus was on web-applications, building one of the first fitness-tracking social networks called traineo. This went viral and people started to take notice! Other websites included a hotel booking website, a social network for working mums, and even a video sharing website pre-Youtube!
Office cat acquired and the focus fully shifts to eCommerce instead of bespoke web-applications. The team grows to four members, building websites for local retailers in Bath as well as further afield with our first European customer.
The start of bluCommerce! This heralds a new approach in our technical direction, creating greater efficiencies to serve our customers and build better functionality. We find our first customer who wants to use bluCommerce!
Our team grows to over 15 during this time, we launch bluCommerce v3, and our customer base grows with our first household name joining us, Oliver Bonas. We innovate some cutting-edge functionality including product filtering and quick-views that haven't been done effectively before!
We outgrow our original office and move across the round to the world-famous Queen Square in central Bath. We now have plenty more space to expand but sadly the office cat tenders their resignation!
Mid-way through the year, we partner with marketing and analytics experts more2 in order to bring their powerful analytical capabilities to our clients, and our powerful eCommerce capabilities to theirs. bluCommerce version 5 is also released (version 4 was short-lived!)
blubolt expands their client base, now working with a number of different eCommerce industries, including fashion, gifts, homeware, and food. We give our blubolt branding a small update and bluCommerce version 6 is released with a brand new administration app.
We release our new mobile and B2B solutions that unlock new features and potential for customers, and our team grows to over 30 with many more specialist roles created in the process.
A big year for bluCommerce, heralding the arrival of version 7. We launch the new bluCommerce checkout, search, and subscription modules, and upgrade our underlying technologies to further improve the performance of the platform.
Major updates to the bluCommerce platform including our new Content Editor, persistent basket, and express payment options. bluCommerce also achieves PCI-DSS Level 1 compliance, recognising our commitment to best-practice security.
At the end of 2018, blubolt was ready for growth. With growth comes change, and with change comes evolution. In balance with our rebrand, we announced our partnership with Shopify Plus to compliment our own platform, bluCommerce. This propels us forward to the next exciting phase of blubolt!
In 2019, having been awarded Shopify Plus Partner status, we launched our first eCommerce sites on their platform. We had a stellar start with teapigs experiencing a 30% uplift in sales post-migration thanks to a new and improved subscription system.
We cemented our Shopify Plus Partner credentials with beautifully built websites for brands like LINLEY, Alexa Chung and Never Fully Dressed. Ever keen to expand our offering, we partnered with age verification experts, AgeChecked, to deliver our first Shopify App with great success.
At blubolt there are no sales targets, no upsell and no faceless team you never get to know beyond an email address.
